Measuring for Gas Logs

Here are quick tips to help anyone become better acquainted with vented and vent-less gas logs. As always, Hutshop is the place to come to when buying your gas logs!!

Tip # 1 - Your chimney will need to be cleaned before you install your gas logs especially if you have used the fireplace before. Residual soot and other types of material probably have built up inside the chimney and also may create an odor when the gas logs are being used for the first time. Always consult an authorized chimney cleaner to do this for you!

Tip #2 - Gas logs are very easy to install, require little upkeep and provide maximum warmth to your living room or bedroom during those chilly nights.

Tip #3 - Our most popular set of vented gas logs are the Charred Oak.

Tip #4 - Ventless gas logs are prone to getting dirty from normal household dust since they cannot escape up a chimney. It is recommended to get an inspection of your gas logs each fall before you start using them.

Tip #5 - Fireplace-Gaslogs sell the G45 Triple T Burner for our vented gas log sets. They present an awesome real fire presence with the front embers adding depth to the flame. It is good for both natural and propane gas and uses 50,000 to 90,000 BTU's.

Tip #6 - For our ventless gas logs, we offer three different types of burners. They are the G9, G10 and G18 series. They all help enhance the fire burning experience and give you a warm feeling while you are sitting close and enjoying a quiet evening in your home. They also use 36,000 to 37,000 BTU's and utilize the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS).

Tip #7 - A Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) is standard on all vent-free logs. Since you won't be using a chimney, and all the heat is being funneled into your living room or bedroom, the ODS detects oxygen levels and will shut the gas log set off when it falls below 18%. Normal oxygen levels are around 21%, so the ODS is very safe and reliable and have been in use for over 40 years.

Tip #8 - Ventless gas logs produce more heat because it cannot escape up a chimney. They use less gas than vented gas logs.

Tip #9 - Never use real wood with your gas logs because the extreme heat will consume everything and render your gas logs useless.

Tip #10 - BTU's stand for British Thermal Units and represent a standard heat measurement. The amount of fuel that a fireplace will consume per hour is calculated with the BTU value of the fuel it uses to determine the input of that fireplace.
